Six pieces for a line that was never built.

Standing Room is clothes for the ride in: the wait on the platform, the turnstile, the local that stops everywhere, the express that does not, the last car, the walk to the transfer. Each piece is named for the part of the ride it is for, and the home page is the strip map above the doors. Pick your stop and the sign tells you what is next.

Standing Room does not exist. Don Florencio of Workflo built it as a portfolio piece, to show what a small label’s storefront can be when it has one idea and keeps to it. No product exists, nothing is for sale, and the bag empties when you close the tab.

Write to Workflo

The strip map is the navigation, and the window behind it is live: a canvas rides photographs of a tunnel wall to whichever stop you pick and pulls in at a photographed station wall, each stop in its own tile color, with the piece on its poster. The sign is a real clock, drawn as a 5 by 7 dot matrix. Open a piece and its photograph travels from the poster, or from its frame in the lookbook, into the page, and back again: the browser’s own view transition, with no framework behind it.

The garments and the photographs were generated with a diffusion model on Don’s own computer, with one rule: no faces. The technical flats are drawn as SVG and carry the size chart.

One typeface carries the whole site: TeX Gyre Heros, the free cut of the grotesque on the subway’s own signs, set bold wherever the page is a sign and regular wherever it is read. No framework, no cookies, no third-party scripts. A short script writes the six product pages from one data file.
